"After doing my Montessori Teacher’s training in the late fifties, I started my career as a primary year’s educator in St. Xavier’s School, Mirzapur, Ahmedabad.  Back then, there was no concept of preschool education and most schools enrolled children straight away in Class-1 at the tender age of 5. While a few schools did run a kindergarten section, as it spanned only one year, most children failed to build a firm foundation as English was not their mother-tongue. As a result, most children lacked in ‘school readiness’ while commencing elementary school. This is precisely what inspired me to introduce preschool education to the city of Ahmedabad. 

I founded Thumbelina in 1974 as a child-centric preschool – a preschool, where the child is the focus of everything we do ! As nothing reassures a mother more than being assured of her child being safe while in our care, child safety and hygiene has always been and always will be, our top priority! To inspire children to explore, discover and develop a joy for learning, we leverage the pedagogy of "Play with a Purpose" as nothing in the world inspires children more - than an invitation to play. At Thumbelina, children are exposed to developmentally appropriate activities in a structured setting with ample opportunity for play amidst an immersive environment that is safe and secure."
